Insisting on acoustic instruments, half of which have their origin in the East, they attempt at exploiting their specific sound, oftentimes also exploring them to the limits of their possibilities. Beyond her exquisite interpretive capacity Savina Yannatou gives special emphasis to the expression of the "music" of each different language, without letting that stop her from oftentimes using her voice as one more instrument. <br/>
<br/>
With a background that combines classical studies and "authentic" traditional music with improvised music and jazz, Savina Yannatou and the musicians of Primavera en Salonico find themselves like rope-dancers on the chord which connects the modal music of the East with the equivalent music of Western Europe, music of the Middle Ages and the popular polyphonies of the Mediterranean. Beginning from the melismatic riches of the Eastern Maqam and the charming irregular rhythms they explore the territory of collective free improvisation, meeting there modern jazz. <br/>
<br/>
Savina Yannatou and Primavera en Salonico have been giving concerts all over the world since 1996. This includes the whole of Europe, the United States, Israel and Taiwan, and venues like the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican in London, the 92nd Street Y in New York, The Holon Theatre in Tel Aviv, the Melbourne Concert Hall and various WOMAD festivals, as well as numerous other world music festivals, like Stern Grove in San Francisco, Taipeh World Music Festival, Fiesta des Suds in Marseille and many others. Highlights of 2003 include the Moers new Jazz Festival in Germany, Music Meeting in Holland and a sold-out Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, in 2004 Etnosur Festival in Spain and Musicas do Mundo in Portugal, while 2005 started with a concert at the 20st edition of the International Jazz festival Muenster in Germany. <br/>
<br/>
Together with Primavera en Salonico Savina Yannatou recorded "Primavera en Salonico", Sephardic Folk Songs from Salonica (Lyra), Mediterranea (Sounds True, USA/ Lyra), The Virgin Maries (Lyra), Terra Nostra, a live CD licensed by ECM Records in 2003 and a new production by ECM, result of creative collaboration with producer and label founder Manfred Eicher: Sumiglia, which was released in March 2005.

<br />The <strong>Palestinian singer, lyricist and composer Rim Banna</strong> was born in <strong>Nazareth</strong>, in the Galilee. She studied music and singing in the High Institute for Music “Gnesins” in <strong>Moscow</strong>.  She graduated in 1991 after six years of academic studies, and specialized in modern singing and conducting singing ensembles.

<br /><strong>Rim Banna</strong> presents the modern Palestinian Arabic song, which has been received with enthusiasm by the Arab world and the International community. Her songs are categorized as a post modern and highly appreciated in the Arab world, being considered as a new form of <strong>contemporary Arabic song</strong>, that promises a bright future for the Arabic music, both in the Arab World and at the international level. Rim Banna´s performances are very demanded in the Arab countries, from the late 80`s.

<br />Her participation in the colective album:”<strong>Lullabies from the axis of evil</strong>” produced by the Norwegian label KKV, together with <strong>Sarah Jane Morris</strong>, <strong>Nina Hagen</strong> or <strong>Lila Downs</strong>, opened  international doors to <strong>Rim Banna</strong>´s live performances.

Rim have played <strong>live</strong> shows in <strong>France</strong>, <strong>Italy</strong>, <strong>Spain</strong>, <strong>Germany</strong>, <strong>Russia</strong>, <strong>Kazakstan</strong>, <strong>Portugal</strong>, <strong>Romenia</strong>, <strong>Denmark</strong>, <strong>Sweden</strong>, <strong>Egypt</strong>, <strong>Jordania</strong>, <strong>Tunis</strong>, <strong>Morocco</strong>, Canada among other countries.
<strong> Rim Banna won in 2002, the National Prize for the Arts of the Palestinian Authority.</strong>

<br />Rim has currently 9 albums published. After “<strong>The mirrors of my soul</strong>” produced by the Norwegian company <strong>KKV</strong>, and distributed internationally, she just relased “<strong>Seasons of Violet</strong>” also with <strong>KKV</strong>,  a brilliant production, on the halfway between Arab music, jazz and pop, on which the voice of Rim shines over great contemporary arrangements.

One of Lebanon's international artists, born and raised in the cosmopolitan Beirut of the 60's and 70's, Rabih learned to play the oud (the king instrument of Arab music ) at the tender age of 4 years. The Lebanese civil war, forced him to leave his country in 1978 to study classical flute in Munich in Munich Academy of Music with Walter Theurer. Studies of classical Western music allowed him to combine the theory of Arabic music with diverse other styles. While classical Oud instrumentalists strove to imitate the human voice inflections, Rabih Abou Khalil explored new paths for the instrument. Currently Rabih's technique are recomended as study material for jazz guitarists, while his compositions comprise a summary of centuries of Arab culture, without sound, even remotely, as traditional Arab music.<br/>
<br/>
Rabih Abou Khalil has established itself as avant-garde composer and one of the most renowned musicians of the oud. Not only because their compositions are timeless but also because it raises questions that nobody dared to take before getting create its own language. Commissioned by the South West German Radio, wrote a very unusual composition for string quartet. The release by the famous Kronos Quartet was the highlight of the Stuttgart Jazz Summit in 1992. In his CD: "Arabian Waltz" with the Balanescu Quartet managed to integrate the string quartet (for centuries the  queen ensemble for Western classical music) in Arabic music and language.<br/>
<br/>
His last work "in Portuguese”, is a new adventure: the composition of a full concert inspired by the Fado. Ricardo Ribeiro's voice one of the most dedicated young fado (also involved in the film "Casa de Fados by Carlos Saura) sings contemporary melodies that retain both the essence of Fado, such as the Arabic roots of Rabih Abou Khalil. All this on an upbeat contemporary jazz, halfway made  between the North-American drummer, Jarrod Cagwin, bassist French: Michel Godard and Italian accordionist Luciano Biondini, all partners of Rabih musical adventures since the early 90's.

The electric oud of Yannis Papaioannou, full of wah wah and effects, naturally draws Eastern Mediterranean melodies over North African, reggae or pop rhythms. Sometimes as if we were in a return of the 60's groups, sometimes traditional, but always very intense. Keyboards accentuate the feeling of psychedelic group, expanding soundscapes, while the rhythm section: bass, drums and percussion, masterfully maintains the rhythms of chaabi, rock, reggae or funk, giving to the ensemble the drive to convert a concert of Yacine &#038; The Oriental Groove into an experience that moves simulta- neously brain, feet and over all: the soul.

La<strong> Musgaña</strong> offers us a view of all the instrumental music from the <strong>Castilian meseta</strong> exploring the essence of <strong>Castile</strong>’s rich tradition and developing the aesthetic possibilities of a cultural heritage with so much racial mix.<br/><br/>

<strong> Europe</strong> and <strong>Africa</strong>, the <strong>Mediterranean</strong> and the <strong>Atlantic</strong> have all left their mark on the centre of the Iberian peninsula, and any reference to their art or music finds its reflection in our own Castilian culture, enabling us to continue with a tradition which, far from being static, has imbibed every source it has found on its way.<br/><br/>

With an enormous wealth of rhythms and styles from religious offertories and peasant dances: the charradas, ajechaos and charros of <strong>Salamanca</strong> and <strong>Zamora</strong>; the bailes corridos of <strong>Avila</strong>; the pindongos from <strong>Caceres</strong>, and the dances, airs and songs of <strong>Leon</strong> or <strong>Burgos</strong>, to the jotas, songs of supplication, romances and Christmas carols from <strong>Madrid</strong>, <strong>Segovia</strong> or <strong>Valladolid</strong>, <strong>La Musgañ</strong>a reveals to us a whole range of <strong>native</strong>, <strong>ethnic</strong> and <strong>contemporary</strong> <strong>instruments</strong> which provide the perfect timbre at every moment of this creative look at the deepest roots of our culture.<br/><br/>

<h2 style="text-align: right;">Biography</h2>
From its very beginnings, La Musgaña has wrought its own personal style of handling traditional Castilian music, distancing itself once and for all from the typical arrangements of the rondalla (music of the strolling musicians) which the style had lapsed into.<br/>
The first album, recorded for Sonifolk in 1988, was entitled El diablo cojuelo (The Crippled Demon) and was totally instrumental, with the exception of the lyrical song “Un soldado menos” (One soldier less).<br/>
That same year the group took part in the National Folk Festival for young artists, held in Santiago de Compostela, walking away with a well-deserved first prize in the category of contemporary folk Their performance was filmed on video by Spanish television and as a result of that award the group got the chance to make another album, this time for Spanish Radio and Television’s own label, RTVE, entitled El paso de la estantigua (The hobgoblins’ pro- cession) which was the first of their records in CD format.<br/>

In 1990 they began touring Europe (UK, Italy, France, Germany, Slovenia, etc.), and that same year they represented Spain at the annual European Broadcasting Union event, the EBU, held in Budapest.
The decision to turn professional led to two of the group members moving on but opened the way for two musicians with a wealth of experience in folk and new trends: Luis Delgado and Cuco Pérez.<br/>

By this time la Musgaña had made their third album, which came out in 1991 under the Lady Alicia Records label. Entitled Lubicán as a tribute to the Iberian lynx. the album was recorded by the original members of the band with Luis Delgado’s collaboration plus two leading voices for the vocals tracks: Manuel Luna and Javier Bergia.<br/>

Their next recording was made for Spanish television for the programme Arte y artistas. In 1992 the group recorded three new songs to be included in the re-release of their first album, El diablo cojuelo on CD. In 1993, along with other groups, they also took part in an album dedicated to the St James’s Way, entitled Hent Sant Jakez, recorded by the Swiss label, Shamrock. Along with the Breton group, Bleizi Ruz, Desi Wilkinson from Ireland, and the Galician female group, Leilia, La Musgaña stole the show on many tracks of the album.<br/>
Meanwhile, the group was continuously touring abroad, particularly in the States. Catching the attention of one of the major international Celtic and folk music labels, Green Linnet, the label soon offered them a contract for several albums. Starting with a re-release of Lubicán, after the departure of Cuco Pérez from the group, la Musgaña did their first sole recording for Xenophile, Green Linnet’s new ethnic label.<br/>

Entitled Las seis tentaciones (The Six Temptations) the album was an intoxicating tribute to traditional Castilian music, recorded with an interesting mix of traditional and modern instruments. Perhaps most appropriately from the international point of view, it was a totally instrumental work, with the collaboration of the Basque trikitiari or accordion player, Kepa Junkera, on a number of tracks.<br/>

This takes us up to the recording. made for their tenth anniversary and entitled En concierto, brought out by the label, Resistencia, in 1997. This is a selection of numbers performed live at several performances by the La Musgaña trio with the participation of: Kepa Junkera, Javier Paxariño, Amancio Prada, Manuel Luna, Luis Delgado, Johny Cunningham, and several members of Radio Tarifa, amongst others.<br/>
In recognition of those ten years, in 1998 En Concierto was awarded the “City of Madrid” `Prize for Popular Mu- sic, by Madrid Town Hall.<br/>

After six years without any recordings but with a hectic activity of projects and concerts it arrives what media has considered their most elaborate, meticulous and exciting record of their trajectory, Temas Profanos. Being released by La Musgana`s own record label Lubican Records, they explore on this CD the essence of Central Spain rich tradition and they develop the aesthetic possibilities of a cultural heritage with so much racial mix.<br/>

According to himself, his music is inspired by the legacy and the Palestinian dream of a peaceful Palestinian state. Hi is one of the most talented Arab oudists, but ironically is forbidden to play on most of the Arab world because its condition of Israeli citizen.<br/>

In 2003 he began playing with his brother Wissam Joubran, and they released the album "Tamaas" in the same year, considered a masterpiece arising out of innate talent, deep knowledge of the oud and improvisational ability of the two brothers. Wissam also inherited his father's profession, and is the first luthier of Arab origin in joining the Andoni Stradivari Institute in Italy.<br/>
<br/>
Adnan Joubran joined his two brothers in 2004 to form "Le trio Joubran" and published the album "Radan"in March 2005. Adnan made his debut with his brothers in Paris at the age of 15 years (currently 18) and is regarded as a prodigy by them.<br/>
<br/>
Together they have captured the ears of Western Europe, also have traveled around the world with his music. They have also starred in the documentary "Improvisation" (Raed Andoni, 2005), which tells how the two older brothers teach the small Adnan for his debut with them in Paris, immersing us in the daily life of this unique and marvelous family, Joubran.
