Received with enthusiasm by the Arab world and the international comunity, Rim Banna performances present a post-modern music, connecting traditional Arab song with the most contemporary sounds.
The Palestinian singer, lyricist and composer Rim Banna was born in Nazareth, in the Galilee. She studied music and singing in the High Institute for Music “Gnesins” in Moscow. She graduated in 1991 after six years of academic studies, and specialized in modern singing and conducting singing ensembles.
Rim Banna presents the modern Palestinian Arabic song, which has been received with enthusiasm by the Arab world and the International community. Her songs are categorized as a post modern and highly appreciated in the Arab world, being considered as a new form of contemporary Arabic song, that promises a bright future for the Arabic music, both in the Arab World and at the international level. Rim Banna´s performances are very demanded in the Arab countries, from the late 80`s.
Her participation in the colective album:”Lullabies from the axis of evil” produced by the Norwegian label KKV, together with Sarah Jane Morris, Nina Hagen or Lila Downs, opened international doors to Rim Banna´s live performances. Rim have played live shows in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia, Kazakstan, Portugal, Romenia, Denmark, Sweden, Egypt, Jordania, Tunis, Morocco, Canada among other countries. Rim Banna won in 2002, the National Prize for the Arts of the Palestinian Authority.
Rim has currently 9 albums published. After “The mirrors of my soul” produced by the Norwegian company KKV, and distributed internationally, she just relased “Seasons of Violet” also with KKV, a brilliant production, on the halfway between Arab music, jazz and pop, on which the voice of Rim shines over great contemporary arrangements.
